Encaustic Floor Tile design - ENC15

The colours of the encaustic tiles are customizable, the pictures presented on this webpage are only for inspiration purposes.

Handpressed, Winckelmans decorated tiles are strong and will stand the test of time. Their colours and pattern are though-body and allow the patterns and colours to last for many decades.

Thickness: 9 mm.

Available size: 70×70 mm.

Encaustic tiles decoration is achieved by stamping a design into the body of a plain clay tile before firing while it is still damp, and filling the stamped impression with liquid clay of a contrasting colour. The tile is then fired to fuse the two clays together. Encaustics tile may be wholly or partly glazed, but most Victorian encaustics tiles were unglazed.

3 Easy Steps to Buy Your Tiles

  • We usually spend 1 to 4 weeks on each project that we work on. This includes the time needed to design, asemble and prepare your order for your project.

  • It is recommended to increase the surface calculated on site by 10% in anticipation of any occasional wastage due to cutting.

  • Our unglazed tiles are non-rectified, dry pressed and have a low water absorption rate.

Our tile sizes can therefore vary according to tolerances determined by recognized standards (French Cahiers du CSTB and NF EN 14411 standard in force).

Consequently, it is essential to use a 2 to 3mm grout width for all tiles supplied loose, and potential adjustments to grout width may be necessary due to this constraint.

  • Because our tiles are made from natural raw materials, some slight shade variations may occur from one batch to another for tiles of the same color.

Therefore, the availability of identical shades in cases of replenishment or additions to previous projects cannot be guaranteed.

  • All our products, especially those assembled on paper or fiber mesh, must be kept dry prior to installation.
